Europe loves our Parisians

The Paris region is one of the most prolific in producing top-grade football talent - we take a look at the youth academy's work in polishing up these rough diamonds.

Named France's top youth academy by the French Football Federation (FFF), the capital club can boast a number of talented youngsters. Some, like FIFA World Cup winner Presnel Kimpembe, became cornerstones of the first team, while others shine elsewhere.

Germany is the young Parisians' favourite destination with 13 players going there since 2018/19. Christopher Nkunku played for the Rouge et Bleu in four seasons before heading to Leipzig where he has played 68 games, scored 10 goals, and reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last season. And he's not the only one to succeed in the Bundesliga: Moussa Diaby joined Leverkusen after spending the 2018/19 campaign in the Paris Saint-Germain first-team squad, and has scored 16 times in 69 matches.

During the last three seasons, seven Parisians have headed to the English Premier League, two have gone to Serie A, three to La Liga.

But it is, of course, in Ligue 1 that most of them play with no fewer than 77 youngsters currently in the French top flight with a connection to the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy.
