Bernard Brochand passes away

Paris Saint-Germain has today learned of the death of its former chairman Bernard Brochand, at the age of 86.

In 1973, Daniel Hechter approached the DDB advertising agency to find a new sponsor for Paris Saint-Germain, then in the second division, and its president, Bernard Brochand. A few months later, this football fan became a member of the Parisian club's management committee. In his youth, he had won the Coupe Gambardella with Cannes, a French Amateur Championship title and played a number of professional matches with Stade Français in Paris and then Brest. A youth, university and military international, Bernard Brochand gave priority to his studies, turning down offers from OGC Nice.

A communications specialist, he became Chairman of the Rouge et Bleu in 1991, after negotiating the arrival of the Canal+ group. Alongside Michel Denisot, he presided over the fortunes of the capital club, winning numerous trophies, before leaving his post to devote himself to his second passion, politics. He succeeded here too, serving as mayor of Cannes from 2001 to 2014, then as deputy for the 8th constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes until 2022, at the age of 84. Paris Saint-Germain extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bernard Brochand.

“It was with deep sadness that we learned of Bernard Brochand’s passing, declared Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Paris Saint-Germain President. He wrote his name in Paris Saint-Germain history through his commitment and his passion, which helped to make PSG what it is today. On behalf of the entire Paris family, I would like to present my most heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and to all those who were lucky enough to cross paths with him. His memory will remain etched in the club’s history forever.”
