4 June 1974 - 4 June 2019: 45 years of Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain!

The 2018/19 season was one of many records, one of which was the French top-flight's best for successive campaigns. The season was Paris Saint-Germain's 45th in a row, beating Nantes' 44 set between 1963 and 2007.

The Parisians are far ahead of their nearest rival, Lyon, who came into the top flight in 1989, 15 years later.

It was 4 June 1974 after a play-off second leg at the Parc des Princes that the Rouge-et-Bleu officially won promotion to Ligue 1.

Beaten at Valenciennes (1-2) in the first leg, Paris Saint-Germain had no option other than to win at home. To spur on the side, coach Just Fontaine showed the squad a picture of the Parc des Princes completely empty. "You know what you have to do to fill it," he told them.

Despite the first-leg loss, there were no changes to the starting XI as they stepped out in front of a crowd of 19,151 at the Parc. Half-an-hour in, and Dogliani teed up M'Pelé for the opener (35') only for Wilczek to seize on hesitation by Quéré, and he crossed for Neubert to head home an equaliser (39').

Another defensive error enabled Wilczek to put the visitors ahead (48'), but hope was restored when Laposte's pass gave Dogliani the opportunity to level the scores on the day (54').

A mistake from Copin saw Laposte's cross find its way to Marella, who then gave Paris the lead (61').

The end of the game was epic. Dogliani skipped around the Valenciennes goalkeeper Escale, and slid the ball into the empty net (75'). The home captain's goal to send Paris Saint-Germain into the top flight stood despite vehement protests from the visitors.

The drama was such Fontaine suffered a minor heart attack when the full-time whistle sounded with his club's first-ever Ligue 1 place secured.

"I'm very happy, it's fantastic," said Dogliani. "We've been waiting for this for a long time...It was quite tough, but what do you expect from a game of such importance. You have to take care of everything. Finally, now we can look forward to next year."
