Time for the big one!

News

The Paris Saint-Germain Women's team is preparing for their top of the table clash in the French D1 against title-rivals Lyon, this Sunday 30 May at 21:00 at Groupama Stadium - a match that will all-but decide who will win the championship.

A solitary point is all that currently separates the club from the capital, and league leaders from a Lyon side sitting second with just two games left to play in the French championship! The aim is clear for Olivier Echouafni and his players: avoid defeat and then head into the 22nd and final match of the D1 season against Dijon in pole position, knowing that a win will see them crowned.

Les Rouge et Bleu have been preparing for this match against Lyon for a week now since the victory in Reims (4-0, 21/05/2021). Paris hold a certain psychological advantage after having beaten Lyon in the first leg at the Parc des Princes (1-0, 20/11/2020), before eliminating them in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League, following an OL win in the capital (1-0, 24/03/2021) and then a Parisian success in Lyon (2-1, 18/04/2021), in the process, putting an end to a series of five consecutive Lyon wins in the competition.

A victory for Paris would be an incredible achievement after Lyon have won the last 14 championships in a row. "To arrive at this moment of the season and to say to oneself that there is the title to go and get against a great team, which will be looking to pull out a great match, is incredible,” explained Olivier Echouafni to PSG TV. “The girls have been very brave and I think they deserve to be rewarded. Now, for them to be rewarded, they will have to put all the necessary ingredients. That starts with showing great solidarity because there will be difficult moments. If we do that, we will be up to the task and able to get a good result."

A sentiment shared by Christiane Endler. “We are very eager to play this important game that looks like a final," said the Chile international. “We know that. This is the first time that we are at the end of the season with such a chance to be champions. So we are very happy to get to this point and excited to play this game. It's the game everyone is waiting for. We all want to play it. We hope to win it to bring the trophy back to Paris."

Sara Däbritz is also excited. “I have the feeling that everyone is focused on this match and impatient to start," added the Germany international. “In these kind of games, it is important to give 100%. I think we are all ready to play this game. We all want to play this game and go for this victory." Catch the highlights, match report, photos and post-match interviews on PSG.FR and PSG TV.
