Paris Saint-Germain Women's team lost 2-1 against AS Roma on Wednesday 4 August at the Stade Ernest Wallon in Toulouse, in the semi-final of the AMOS Women's French Cup 2021. A look back on the second friendly of Les Rouge et Bleu's pre-season.
Three days after settling down in Toulouse and after two intense days of work in Occitanie, the club from the capital returned to competition on Wednesday for the side's first match of the AMOS Women's French Cup. On the cards was a match against AS Roma at the Stade Ernest Wallon. For the occasion, Didier Ollé-Nicolle lined up a competitive starting 11 led by four of his new recruits: Constance Picaud, Elisa De Almeida, Sakina Karchaoui and Kheira Hamraoui.
Constance Picaud was surprised right at the get go, when Manuela Giugliano, who was 25 metres out, sent a missile into the top corner (0-1, 2'). Les Rouge et Bleus' reply didn't take long to come however. Thank to a corner, Sara Däbritz found Paulina Dudek on the 6 metre line, who placed a header right next to the post to get back onto level terms (1-1, 4'). After a one-two with the German, Marie-Antoinette Katoto thought she was giving her team the lead, but her goal was ruled out for an offside... that should never have been given (19'). Things almost went completely wrong because, at the same time, Giugliano, again, found Picaud's bar with another strike from distance (20').
Upon their return from the locker room, the last Parisian rampart pushed away a lob over the bar, before from the resulting corner, Valeria Pirone missed the goal from close-range (55'). The reigning French Champions responded, also from a corner, but Katoto saw her attempt pushed off the line by Elisa Bartoni (61'), then a free kick from Däbritz found Dudek whose header crashed against Camilia Caesar's bar (65'). The Romans finally had the last word. Played in deep on the left wing on the counter-attack, Annamaria Serturini cut inside and beat Picaud with a powerful strike at the near post (1-2, 68').
The last Parisian efforts didn't make a difference, and the winners of the Italian Cup validated their ticket for the final of the AMOS Women's French Cup 2021. Didier Ollé-Nicolle's players will face Lyon on Friday 6 August at 18:00, still in Toulouse but at the Stadium Municipal this time, to compete for third place in the competition.
