The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper looks back on the highlights of the season, before looking ahead to the Arkema Première Ligue final, in which the Parisiennes will play against Olympique Lyonnais on Friday 16th May at 9pm at the Groupama Stadium in Décines-Charpieu.
Mary, can you tell us about this season? We all remember the disappointment of the Champions League play-off...
"Football can sometimes be unfair. Even if our opponents had undoubtedly been better. We would have needed a bit more time to be sure of our strengths, to be ready. We know that when you play for PSG, you have to be in the Champions League every year. We were very disappointed, but we have to move on because the matches come one after the other, and we had to get back up to speed quickly."
What do you think of the team's progress?
"There were a lot of changes in the team from last season. There were a lot of new players, and there's always a period of adjustment. I think we've all progressed along the way, becoming a strong team and putting together a string of good results, which is why we are where we are today."
This season has been full of contrasts...
"The most important thing is that we have qualified for next season's Champions League. It was important to secure this qualification and get back into the elite of European football. Unfortunately, we lost nthe Coupe de France final, which was an opportunity to lift a trophy this season, and we're really disappointed not to have brought the Cup back to Paris. We'll do everything we can to win it next year."
How did you approach the league play-off semi-final against PFC?
"In the run-up to the semi-final, the group really came together and there was an energy that carried us through. We played a very good match. The team spirit is without doubt the most important thing in this sport, and we were very solid in defence, while our attack was also very effective, scoring three goals. The team's performance was incredible."
What's the mood in the squad ahead of the final against Lyon?
"We're very focused. We know that Lyon are a great team, but so are we. Our aim is to win the title and play a really good game. Every game against Lyon this season has been close, and this time we hope to tip the balance in our favour."
