Spurred on by Coubertin, Paris cruise past Limoges

Comptes-rendus

This Sunday, on Matchday 26 of the Liqui Moly StarLigue, Paris Saint-Germain Handball put on a show at Coubertin against Limoges (37-26). A look back at a victory that allows Les Rouge et Bleu to consolidate their place at the top of the league.

A final test before the last international break of a season that is drawing to a close. That sums up what awaited Les Rouge et Bleu against Limoges this Sunday at Coubertin. After this interlude, Raul Gonzalez's men will have a title to fight for: the Coupe de France. But before thinking about the Parisians' return to the AccorArena to take on Montpellier, the capital club will have to show unwavering concentration to overcome Limoges. Led by former Parisian Gauthier Ivah, the team from the Hautes-Vienne region have established themselves as an unpredictable side (as demonstrated in the reverse fixture, which Paris won 29-30), even beyond France.

Andreas Palicka in charge

remember. In a one-sided start to the match, the capital club gave their opponents no chance. While Andreas Palicka made two saves in quick succession, the attack proved clinical (4': 4-0). With two goals each, Yahia, Elohim and Luc put the Limoges defence under pressure (6': 6-1). Alberto Entrerríos decided to take immediate action by calling the first time-out of the match.

The reaction was slow to come, and for good reason. Imperious since throw-off, Andreas continued his masterclass by stopping consecutive penalties. Kamil, meanwhile, made no mistake and increased the lead (12': 8-3). Solid in defence, Pale' was at his best tonight and even found the back of the net following a seven-man attack by the visitors (16': 11-4).

Les Rouge et Bleu show no mercy

The minutes ticked by, but the intensity remained the same for Les Rouge et Bleu. Combining effortlessly, the Parisians were too quick for their opponents, who found themselves a man down after a foul on Kamil. Ferran took charge of the penalty, powering home to continue his perfect showing in front of goal (22': 15-8).

Raul Gonzalez decided to make his first substitutions as the break approached, with Kent Robin Tonnesen, Léo Plantin and Wallem Peleka coming on. It was the latter who made the first impression with a splendid piece of inspiration (26': 17-9). Unable to find a solution to Paris' razor-sharp cutting edge, Limoges once again decided to stop play, but it didn't help. After a double from the ruthless Andreas, the capital club put on a show in front of their home crowd and went into the break ten goals to the good (30': 20-10).

Sensational entry for David Balaguer

The Rouge et Bleu came out for the second half in the same vein. Despite the significant gap on the scoreboard, Raul Gonzalez's men sought to continue the party festival in front of a vocal crowd. David Balaguer, who had just come on, struck twice (32': 22-10), but the star of the evening was Andreas Palicka. Ruthless in the first half, our goalkeeper continued his impressive performance in both defence and attack. In addition to making his 15th save, Pale' found the back of the net for the fifth time, which is quite simply a record for a handball goalkeeper (41': 26-13).

A comfortable lead before the international break

In a suspense-free final period, Les Rouge et Bleu continued to entertain their fans, with David Balaguer notably scoring one of the goals of the season. On the receiving end of a kung-fu, the Parisian right winger produced an exceptional acrobatic feat to send the Coubertin crowd into raptures (57': 35-24). At the end of a match they controlled from start to finish, Paris recorded a resounding victory against a Limoges side that simply had no answers (60': 37-26).

Reactions from Andreas Palicka and Elohim Prandi:

Next up for Les Rouge et Bleu

It's now time for the last international break of the season for our Parisians. Seven of them will soon join their national teams for matches with varying stakes. The return to club competition will take place on Sunday 18 May in a crucial match: the Coupe de France final against Montpellier.
