News

Paris Saint-Germain made Leonardo's return as sporting director official on Friday, and the world's media had its say.

After his opening game at the Copa America with Brazil, Marquinhos gave his thoughts on Leonardo's return to Paris: "He's someone who has contributed a lot to the club. He made some very good transfers at the start of the project. He's come back six years later, the club has taken on a new dimension since and I hope he'll be able to accomplish great things so the club can keep moving forward."

The media has also had its say on the Brazilian's comeback. In France, L'Equipe talked about the work ahead for him: "Leonardo is coming back as sporting director. At the heart of his task is to build a competitive team." Le Parisien newspaper talked about him as being "the instigator of Paris Saint-Germain under Qatari control in 2011, a name of world football, a tremendous architect and almost a guarantee of success."

AFP talked about "a free man" who "built the Paris team during the first two years of the Qatari era, transforming a struggling team fighting for Ligue 1 survival into a war machine."

Leonardo is respected by the specialists, and loved by the fans, who are delighted to see him back at the club he loves so much: "I'm extremely enthusiastic at the idea of being back at Paris Saint-Germain. This club has meant so much to my career in football and in my life."

Outside of France, in the UK, the USA, in Malaysia and elsewhere, the news did not pass by unnoticed. BBC Sports, ESPN, The Star Online reported the return of the 49-year-old Brazilian. La Gazzetta dello Sport, in Italy, quoted Leonardo on his return - "I'm enthusiastic" - while pointing out the "work" ahead of him across two articles dedicated to his comeback.

The Brazilian media also highlighted Leonardo's first love affair with the French capital's club as a player, underlining the special relationship between Paris Saint-Germain and the South American nation.
