Ligue 1 start: Act 3 vs Le Havre for the Parisians

News

The 2024-25 Ligue 1 season will start in Normandy with a trip to Le Havre.

It is the third time Paris are meeting Le Havre in the opening game of the season after 1987-88 (a 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes) and 1994-95 (0-0 in Le Havre).

It is also against Le Havre that the Parisians played their first match of 2023-24, winning a friendly at the PSG Campus 2-0 on 21 July 2023, Luis Enrique's first game in charge.

Paris have also met Nancy three times in their opening league game, with only Lorient (4) and Bastia (5) ahead of them as the most frequent Matchday 1 opponents.

Paris Saint-Germain were promoted to the top flight in 1974, so this new season marks the 50th anniversary of that milestone. They have started more often away from home (29) than at home (22).

The Parisians drew 0-0 with Lorient in last season's opener, but they have lost just once on Matchday 1 since 2012, winning seven times and drawing four.

That loss came on 10 September 2020 at Lens (1-0), which was actually the Matchday 2 fixture that season following their European adventure. They won their official opening game 1-0 vs Metz on 16 September, 2020.

Other than that loss at Lens, you have to go back to the 2008-09 season for an opening game defeat (1-0 at Monaco, 09/08/2008) with three draws and four wins at Lille (1-0, 2015-2016), Bastia (1-0, 2016-2017), Troyes (2021-2022) and Clermont (5-0, 2023-2024).

It's a great record they can improve on when they kick off the new season on the weekend of 18 August.
