Back training with the rest of the squad after back surgery, Abdou Diallo spoke to PSG TV about his comeback from injury and the club's upcoming matches....
Abdou, you're back with the squad after a long time on the sidelines...
"I had a discal hernia. The L5-S1 vertebrae in the lower back. I don't know how I got it, it came on slowly and I started getting pain in the lower back and down the right leg. I decided to have an operation because it was the best way to get back to my best."
How has the rehabilitation gone?
"It was a bit difficult due to the coronavirus. In an ideal world, I would have been operated on after the Borussia Dortmund match, but with the pandemic, the hospitals were reserved for victims of the virus - and rightly so. I had to wait to final get the operation so everything was delayed."
What did you feel when you finally got back on the football pitch?
"It was pure joy. After so long stuck at home in lockdown and then in bed after the operation, it was great to be able to move again without pain. I started partial training with the squad last week with the warm-up, rondos and tactical work. My aim was to back 100% with the squad this week and that's the case."
How do you judge the teams form at the moment?
"The preparations have gone well and we have shown some good things on the pitch. We haven't conceded a goal yet and we've been scoring. It shows that we are focused and want to do things properly."
After Saint-Etienne last Friday, this week we've got the Coupe de la Ligue final against Lyon...
"The fact that we didn't win the Cups last season is a great source of motivation for us. When you play for Paris Saint-Germain you are obliged to win. We need to win as many trophies as possible and we're not hiding our ambitions and I think that shows on the pitch."
