History, stakes and the keys to the match! Discover all you need to know before kick-off in Matchday 22 of Ligue 1 2021-2022 between Paris Saint-Germain and Stade de Reims at the Parc des Princes!
A little bit of history...
Paris Saint-Germain and Stade de Reims have played each other on 29 occasions in competitive matches, with Les Rouge et Bleu dominating the history books: Paris have won 14, drawn 7 and lost 8.
In the 1970s, Reims liked to tourment the club from the capital: the club from the Champagne region is still one of the only French teams (with Nantes in 1970-1971 and Nancy in 1984-1985) to win after scoring six goals against Les Parisiens (6-1, on 9 August 1974 in the league), with all six coming from Carlos Bianchi, who went on to sign for Paris Saint-Germain three years later.
Edinson Cavani is Paris Saint-Germain's top scorer against Reims, with 7 goals to his name. He sits ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, François M’Pelé (5 goals) and Kylian Mbappé (4).
It's worth noting the Stade de Reims' Algerian defender, Aissa Mandi, is to only player to have scored two own goals for Paris (on 5 April 2014 at Parc des Princes, 3-0 for Paris Saint-Germain).
16 players have worn the shirt of both clubs: Manuel Abreu, Carlos Bianchi, Grégory Bourillon, Bernard Bureau, François Calderaro, Jean-François Charbonnier, Antoine Conte, Amara Diané, Antoine Garceran, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Dominique Lokoli, David N'Gog, Richard Niederbacher, Alain Polaniok, Younousse Sankharé and Siaka Tiéné.
It's against Reims on 4 May 1974, that Paris Saint-Germain played for the first ever time in a sold-out Parc des Princes. 44,534 spectators were there for the first leg of the quarter finals of the Coupe de France, which Les Rémois won 5-0. It was also against Reims that Les Parisiens recorded an attendance of over 30,000 in the league at the Parc des Princes for the first time: 31,589 spectators on 8 December 1974.
the stakes...
Just one defeat for Les Parisiens in Ligue 1 and a 10-point lead over Marseille. In fifteen years, Paris Saint Germain have achieved this feat on four occasions: one defeat in 2013-2014 and 2017-2018, and no defeats in 2015-2016 and 2018-2019. Only one other team can match that record since 2006: OGC Nice in 2016-2017 (one defeat).
Paris Saint-Germain will look to continue their unbeaten run in competitive matches at the Parc des Princes: 15 matches (14 wins and one draw) since the defeat against Manchester City in the semi-final of the Champions League (1-2) on 28 April.
the keys to the match...
Paris Saint-Germain haven't conceded a goal against Reims in their last four outings against them (22/01/2020, 3-0 in the Coupe de France, 27/09/2020, 2-0 in the league, 16/05/2021, 4-0 in the league, 29/08/2021, 2-0 in the league). It's Les Rouge et Bleu's best active record, on a par with Nîmes (4 matches without a goal). The club record is six consecutive clean sheets: against Lille (1990-1993), Le Havre (1993-1995), Metz (2001-2004), Bastia (2015-2017) and Rennes (2015-2017).
