Women's team with one foot in next round

News

Four-nil winners over Breidablik on Wednesday, the Paris Saint-Germain women's team is well-placed to reach the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finals.

There was wind, rain and the cold to contend with, but Olivier Echouafni's side shook off the elements as effortlessly as they did their opposition to secure a win that means they can happily look ahead to the return leg in Paris on 31 October.

Karina Saevik's first goal for the club gave the visitors an early lead (0-1, 10'), and just eight minutes later, Formiga headed in Sandy Baltimore's corner to double their advantage (0-2, 18')

Marie-Antoinette Katoto fired home from distance to make it three before the half-hour mark (0-3, 29'), and the Rouge-et-Bleu then held off their Icelandic opponents before Paulina Dudek headed home another corner in the closing stages (0-4, 90+2').

The top-quality display also bodes well for Saturday's derby with Paris FC at the Stade Jean Bouin.
