Parisian empresses in Rome

News

Veni Vidi Vici. Paris Saint-Germain's women's team won 3-1 in Rome on match day 4 of the UEFA Women's Champions League. A victory that reopens the door to possible qualification for the quarter-finals.

In a decisive match for the Rouge et Bleu's European future, Jocelyn PrĂȘcheur's players took to the field with a resolutely attacking system, with one key instruction: win.

And it was the Parisians who set the tempo from the outset. Tabitha Chawinga lit the first fuse with a powerful left-foot shot that the Roman goalkeeper kept out with both hands (10'). The inevitable was only pushed back by a quarter of an hour, when the Malawian striker gave her side the lead.

Assisted by Geyoro, the Parisian striker controlled the ball perfectly to then beat the keeper with a clever left-footed chip (0-1, 26'). Ahead on the scoreboard, the players from the capital club could look to the future in this group with a greater sense of calm. They dominated, but failed to extend their lead before the break.

It was after the hour mark that the Parisians forced the issue a little more, with an extraordinary breakthrough by the ever-present Chawinga, who drew in the whole defence before finding Katoto. The latter then bamboozled the opposing goalkeeper to put her side ahead (0-2, 67').

The scoreline grew greater still in the final quarter of an hour, when Korbin Albert perfectly met Karchaoui's cross with the inside of her left foot to seal the tie (0-3, 78'). The Romans reduced the deficit with a free-kick at the very end of the game (1-3, 88'), a consolation goal that had no effect on the Parisians' ranking, who now climb to second place in the group after Ajax's victory over Bayern Munich at the same time. Ave Paname!
