Les Parisiennes triumph over Le Havre

News

Paris Saint-Germain’s women’s team beat their Le Havre AC counterparts 3-1 this afternoon, on Matchday 14 of D1 Arkema.

After their spectacular 4-4 draw with Fleury and their win over Dijon in the Coupe de France, Les Parisiennes were back on home soil in the league today, as they looked to close the gap between themselves and Lyon, who had comfortably beaten Rodez 5-0 yesterday.

There was a slight air of revenge at the Stade Georges Lefèvre, as Le Havre had held Paris to a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture on 1st October last year. Gérard Prêcheur's players were therefore intent on setting the record straight on their own turf.

Whilst the first half was very much dominated by the capital club, it wasn't until the final few moments of the opening 45' that they were able to break the deadlock. The visitors' defence failed to properly clear a cross into the middle from the tireless Kadi Diani, and Lieke Martens was on hand to hit a subtle, side-footed finish past the watchful eye of Laëtitia Philippe in the opposition net (1-0, 43').

There was a shock after the restart, though, as Le Havre equalised from their first attack. Nadja Ali Nadjim got herself on the end of a cross from the right, and her header flew underneath Constance Picaud's crossbar, leaving it all to do once more for Les Rouge et Bleue (1-1, 47').

Shortly after the hour mark, Les Parisiennes won a penalty for handball by a Le Havre player inside the box, and Diani didn't waste the opportunity to convert it and put her side back in the lead (2-1, 69') – a lead that the capital club would hold onto and even extend thanks to a first-ever goal in D1 Arkema for Laurina Fazer, who beat the Norman side's keeper in a one-v.-one in the dying moments of the game (3-1, 90'+3). The Paris bench were now celebrating, as they had sealed the win that keeps them on Lyon's tail!
