20-year anniversary of Luc Borrelli's death

It was a sad day for Paris Saint-Germain, 20 years ago...

On 3 February 1999, at 6:40 am, a terible car accident claimed the life of the former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper (1993-95).

The previous day, Luc Borrelli had been present at a club for young goalkeepers in the Paris region where he had many friends. On his return, on the National 6 road, near Saulieu (Côte d’Or), his Audi collided with a truck and caught fire. He died at 33 years of age, survived by two young children.

A product of the ASPTT Marseille, Luc Borrelli began his professional career at Toulon, before joining Paris Saint-Germain as cover for Bernard Lama. He was in goal for the final of the Coupe de la Ligue in 1995 and was a member of the squad that won the championship a year earlier. In 1995, he decided to join Caen, for three years, before joining Lyon in 1998.

His friends and family organise an annual training camp in his memory at Sainte Tulle (Alpes-Côte d’Azur) - a project that was very close to his heart and this his friend Grégory Coupet is a very active patron.

20 years on, the Paris Saint-Germain family has not forgotten him...
