Statattack: Our players at the World Championship

In January, Paris Saint-Germain Handball was well represented among the national teams contesting the 2021 World Championship in Egypt. Here's a look back at how our lads fared as the best in the world converged to determine a champion!

There was a total of seven of our players in action on the other side of the Mediterranean, playing for three different teams. There were the two Spaniards, Viran Morros and Ferran Solé Sala, one Dane, Mikkel Hansen, and the four Frenchmen: Nedim Remili, Vincent Gérard, Yann Genty and Luka Karabatic. And they all reached the final four!

Of all our players present, three came back to Paris with a medal around their necks. They were: Viran and Ferran, whose Spain side beat France in the third-place play-off (35-29), and Mikky, who helped Denmark to bring home the Gold, beating Sweden 26-24 in the final.

During the competition, two of our lads shone particularly brightly and earned a place in the tournament's Best 7. Unsurprisingly, the first is left-back Mikkel, who plundered 48 goals and 26 assists on his way to being named tournament MVP. And the second is Spanish right-winger Ferran, who found the back of the net 37 times.

117
The Parisians left their mark (in every sense of the word) on the World Championship! Indeed, they scored a total of 117 goals, with Mikkel Hansen leading the way on 48 strikes in only seven appearances (average of 6.8 per game). He was followed by Ferran (37), Nedim (21) and Luka (8). Our rearguard also played their part, with Vincent scoring twice and Spanish defender Viran scoring one.

76
This is the number of stops made by Vincent (including three penalties) during the tournament. Against Austria (28-35), the French goalkeeper stopped 17 shots, while also scoring two goals! His co-keeper with club and country Yann Genty ended the tournament with 12 saves in six appearances.

74
World champion and tournament MVP (as he also was in 2019), Mikky was one of the driving forces behind Denmark's success in this competition. He accumulated a nice total of goals (48) and assists (26), his 74 decisive actions making him the eleventh-most important offensive player of the tournament. It should be noted that he managed a magnificent performance in the semi-final against Spain (33-35), scoring 12 times from 17 attempts.

25
Between them, Mikkel and Ferran managed to score 25 penalties from the 30 they attempted (14 from 17 for the Dane, 11 from 13 for the Spaniard).

With 366 minutes of play (6 hours and 11 minutes), Vincent was the Parisian who racked up the most game time. He sits ahead of another Frenchman, Nedim Remili (5h11), with Ferran (4:37), Viran (4:13), Mikky (4:02), Luka (4:12) and Yann (1:14) following behind.
