The Paris Saint-Germain Handball players currently representing their respective national teams at Euro 2022 have made a good start to the competition. In addition to France's win over Ukraine (36-23), check out how our players got on in Matchday 2 of the preliminary round.
Denmark (Mikkel Hansen, Henrik Toft Hansen)
Winners in their opening game against Montenegro (30-21), Denmark (without Henrik Toft Hansen) lived up to their billing as favourite on Saturday night against Slovenia (23-34). Once again, Mikkel Hansen was decisive in the Scandinavians' success, firing eight goals from 13 attempts. Since the beginning of the competition, the Parisian left-back has bagged a tournament-high 18 goals. With the defeat of North Macedonia (their next opponent on Monday) against Montenegro (24-28), the Scandinavians are in sole control of Group A.
Netherlands (Luc Steins)
After having succeeded in beating one of the host countries (Hungary, 28-31), Luc Steins' Netherlands could not follow up against Iceland. However, it was a very close game and both teams were in with a chance with just minutes to go (55': 28-27). In the end of proved beyond the reach of the Dutch (29-28), in spite of the two goals from our centre-half. Despite their defeat, they remain second in Group B, but they will need to do better against Portugal - who have lost both their matches so far - in Budapest on Monday.
Poland (Kamil Syprzak)
Two out of two for Kamil Syprzak and his Poland side! Scorer of two of his three attempted shots, our pivot did well in Poland's win over neighbours Belarus (20-29). The White and Red were in total control of the match and were behind for a total of just 20 seconds over the course of the match, having conceded the opener on their opponent's first attack. The result was an excellent one for the Poles, coming hot on the heels of the win over Austria (31-36) - and it leaves atop the Group D table, level on points with rivals Germany. The top-of-the-table clash between the group leaders will take place in Bratislava on Tuesday.
Spain (Ferran Solé Sala)
Spain also made it two from two as they built on Thursday's triumph over the Czech Republic (28-26) with a hard-fought win over Sweden (32-28). Thanks in part to a goal from Parisian right-winger Ferran Solé Sala (from his only attempt), the defending champions went clear at the top of group E, ahead of Swedem, the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is against the latter that the Spaniards will face of in Matchday 3 action on Monday afternoon, when a draw will be enough for them to reach the next round.
