Paris defend their turf again
On Wednesday night, Paris Saint-Germain Handball took on Toulouse in Lidl StarLigue Round 6 action, claiming a deserved 36-30 over a feisty visiting outfit at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.
After taking a few minutes to warm up (5': 3-3), the capital club took control of the match, pouncing on any error from Toulouse and hitting on the counter to create a promising early lead (12': 8-4). When Nedim Remili hit the target from nine metres out to put his side seven goals to the good, the Parisian steamroller was really in full swing (17’: 14-7), but the lead could have grown even further had Kevin Bonnefoi not been so imperious in goal. The Fenix's custodian won several one-on-one duels and played a big role in his side's getting back into the match (26': 15-12). Right on the buzzer, he stopped another shot from Sander Sagosen, but couldn't stop Paris from going into the break four goals in front (30': 18-14).
The scenario replayed itself when the teams came out for the second half, the visitors giving their all to draw level (34': 20-18). Still, Raul Gonzalez's men never seemed to be in danger, continuing to control the match (40': 23-19). Little by little, the home side began to pull clear again, with Luka Karabatic (43': 25-20) and Adama Keita hitting their straps (50': 30-24). While the outcome seemed clear, our players refused to rest on their laurels, with Nedim (eight goals) once again showing his cold-blooded finishing skills with a number of strikes in the final stages of the match (55': 33-27) as well as an assist for Sander (58': 35-20). In the end, our lads ran out winners by a six-goal margin (36-30).
The win was Paris Saint-Germain Handball's fifth in six Lidl StarLigue outings, which leaves them one point shy of leaders Nantes, who claimed a deserved win over Cesson-Rennes (29-28) earlier in the evening.
