Luc Steins signs for Paris on season-long deal

Paris Saint-Germain Handball are pleased to announce the arrival of Luc Steins as a medical joker, following the injury to Nikola Karabatic. The Dutch international will play in the Red and Blue jersey through to the end of the season.

Luc Steins started at the professional level at the age of 17, with the OCI Lions. He joined Massy Essonne Handball after having won consecutive Dutch Cup-Championship doubles in 2015 and 2016.

Named Player of the Season in the Proligue in 2016-17, Steins then joined Tremblay-en-France, where he went on to play two seasons before signing for Toulouse in the summer of 2019. The 25-year-old has 49 caps and 142 goals with the Dutch national team.

"Paris Saint-Germain Handball is a dream for any professional player," said Luc Steins after signing his contract. "Even though I have a deep attachment to Toulouse, it was hard for me to turn down this incredible opportunity. I am very proud to join such a prestigious club and to have been chosen to strengthen a team that already has so much talent. Many challenges await us between now and the end of the season. I'm looking forward to rising to those challenges in this jersey.

"The long-term absence of Nikola Karabatic has forced us to reconsider the structuring of our squad," said Paris Saint-Germain General Manager Jean-Claude Blanc. "There was relatively little room for manoeuvre, given the various regulatory constraints. The arrival of Luc Steins, who is capable of destabilising defences and serving his teammates well, is therefore a real satisfaction for the Club. We have managed to strengthen the team in view of our upcoming challenges, in particular the Champions League Final4 at the end of December."
