Gudjon Sigurdsson: 'There are no easy matches'

On Sunday afternoon, Paris Saint-Germain Handball play host to Celje in their Velux EHF Champions League Matchday 4 clash. Icelandic left-winger Gudjon Sigurdsson spoke to us about the impending clash - and his first few month in the French capital.

Psg.fr: On Sunday, you face Celje. What can you tell us about this team?
Gudjon Sigurdsson: They're a very young and talented team. In recent seasons, they have performed better at home than on the road. They are capable of great things and almost beat Flensburg (24-25). We'll have to be very focused because they can be very dangerous opponents. We must prepare well for this meeting, as we do for every match. Every point counts.

Especially since every opponent can cause you problems...
There are no easy matches... Many thought the match against Elverum would be a formality for Paris. But anything is possible in this competition, where there are only good teams. In Norway, we were just happy to have won. It was a real collective victory.

What are your objectives?
To win as many trophies as possible with this club. We have to give 100% for 60 minutes in all the competitions we play in. It's not easy right now, because we have a few injury absences.

How have you been feeling since you arrived?
Very well thank you, I'm still alive [laughs]. Seriously, I'm not yet at the top of my game. I can do better. It's always difficult to join a new club and a new league. But my teammates welcomed me very warmly and helped me to integrate. I hope to be better every week.

What do you think of the Lidl StarLigue?
It's a very physical league, with many good clubs. It's not very different from the Bundesliga. It's not the same language and that's the biggest difference for me right now [laughs]. I have to learn all this.

How do you deal with the rhythm of two games a week?
We have an experienced team that is used to this rhythm. This is not a new situation. We know how to prepare and what we need to do. Sometimes, during the season, it's harder to stay in good physical shape, but we know how to manage it and how to give our best.

You're 40 years old, but you look a lot younger!
I feel great! I feel great! I do what I can... I learn every day and enjoy life. I am very happy with the results and performance of the team.
