Group B results - Round 12
After beating Zagreb 33-28 on Sunday evening, Paris Saint-Germain Handball remain in sole control of Velux EHF Champions League Group B and hold all the cards to make sure they stay there. Check out the rest of the Round 12 results...
Szeged - Zaporozhye: 30-29
Second-placed Szeged maintained the suspense in te race for top spot in Group B, the Hungarian side backing up last week's win in Celje (28-29) with a one-goal victory over Zaporozhye - an excellent result considering the shape of the match as a whole. Trailing by as many as five goals at one point in the first half (23’: 9-14), Richard Bodo and his teammates surged back in the final stages of the match before Dean Bombac hit a superb last-minute strike to clinch the fight-back win. The result means that Paris still need a point to make certain sure of topping the group.
Flensburg - Celje: 27-26
Meanwhile, Celje once again lost bay single goal. In mid-week, they travelled to Flensburg and found themselves chasing the game all night (30’: 16-12) before clawing their way back (54’: 24-25). Young left-winger Tilen Kodrin, 24, looked to have clinched his side a hard-earned point (58’: 26-26), but a last-gasp save from Benjamin Buric, coupled with Hampus Wanne's converting a penalty - in off the frame of the goal - saw all the marbles go Flensburg's way. The German side remain in third place while Celje languish in the drop zone, two points shy of Zaporozhye.
Skjern - Nantes: 32-34
There is no shortage of suspense in Group B, and the clash between Skjern and Nantes was no exception. Despite a rather poor start (3’: 4-0), The H picked themselves up and got back to within two goals at the break (30’: 17-15). As the second half began, Danish pivot Bjarte Myrhol had the home side comfortably in front once more (45’: 26-22), but with the excellent Kiril Lazarov (6 from 7) firing, Nantes found the resources to level matters (48’: 27-27). Thierry Anti's side then went one better, taking the lead and winning by two goals to leave the Skjern Bank Arena with a two-point haul that assured them of a place in the competition's knockout rounds.
