A look back on Aalborg - PSG Handball

News

At the end of November, Paris Saint-Germain Handball travelled to Denmark to face Aarlborg in their Velux EHF Champions League Round 9 clash. Take a look back on this exciting encounter…

As is often the case during their European trips, Les Rouge et Bleu arrived in their opponent's country the day before the match. They checked out the Jutlander Bank Arena for a training session after arriving, and Viran Morros got the chance to take a selfie with one of the legends of the Danish side, who is in the club's Hall Of Fame: Sander Sagosen.

Far from the eyes, close to the heart... While our team was deprived of the injured Nedim Remili, Adama Keita and Rodrigo Corrales showed him that they were thinking of him! After their victory in the warm-up game, our two players made the link between their team-mate's absence and the team's recent winning run... with a bug smile of course!

The next day, the capital club were preparing to take on a leading Group A side - Aalborg. Henrik Mollgaard and his team-mates had been on the back foot for three games, but they were already enjoying a fine campaign and were fourth in the group before throw-off. The game was shaping up to be an uncertain one.

As announced, it was a tight battle. The locals, driven by their fans, gave our players a hard time. Fortunately, they had the excellent Rodrigo Corrales, who doesn't need a warm-up lap to get off to a strong start!

After falling behind several times (15': 10-8), Les Rouge et Bleu came back and managed to regain the lead with less than 10 minutes remaining, thanks to their captain Luka Karabatic (21': 11-12).

The break came moments later when Mikkel Hansen gave his side a two-goal lead - scoring his 800th European goal in the process - with a 7-metre throw (25': 12-14). In his homeland!

Paris Saint-Germain held their nerve in the face of stiff opposition and went into the break three points clear.

In the second half, the battle was still fierce, but it marked the beginning of the second Corrales show. The Spanish goalkeeper made several key saves to keep Aarlborg from levelling, often in style!

But Rodri didn't hesitate to step out of his comfort zone and get involved in the defensive 'fight', which lead to some comical scenes...

All the way to the end, our goalkeeper showed his prowess! In the very last moments, he was still winning most of his challenges with the Danish forwards.

In the end, Rodrigo made 16 saves to really drive this Parisian win away to Aalborg!
