Check out how the Parisians in action with their respective national teams fared as the Main round of the 2019 World Cup got under way over the weekend.
France:
Les Bleus got off to a great start in the Main round with consecutive wins, first of all over Spain (33-30) on Saturday and then against Iceland on Sunday (22-31). France are now in an excellent position to qualify for the semi-finals, sitting as they do atop Group 1. Parisian Luc Abalo made a terrific contribution against Iceland, firing 4 from 5.
Highlights from Iceland - France
Germany:
Faced with Iceland, die Mannschaft hardly blinked, Uwe Gensheimer (5 goals) and co. running out 24-19 winners in Cologne to take second place in their group - which they will defend on Monday night against Croatia.
Croatia:
The big surprise of the weekend was Croatia's falling to Brazil (29-26). Taking a 100% winning into the match, the Croats ended up cracking in a tough match in which they chased the game the whole time. Luka Stepancic's five goals were unfortunately not enough to prevent defeat.
Denmark:
Denmark confirmed their excellent form, trumping Hungary 25-22 with Mikkel Hansen once again decisive, striking seven times to top score in the match. The match also saw Henrik Toft Hansen play his first minutes in the competition:
In Group 2, the Danes share top spot with Sweden. Next up: Egypt.
Sweden:
Kim Ekdahl Du Rietz's Sweden also tasted victory in their first match of the Main round - a big 35-23 win over Tunisia in which our left-back contributed with two goals. He will now face club-mate Sander Sagosen as Sweden take on Norway in their next outing.
Norway:
The Sagosen/Rod duo proved decisive for Norway against Egypt (32-28), each bagging ten goals to help Norway to the perfect start in the Main round - as their clash with neighbours Sweden looms.
