The Parisians centre stage for the UNFP awards

News

Kylian Mbappé, named Ligue 1 Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, was joined by teammates Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Angel Di Maria, Marco Verratti and Neymar Jr in the Team of the Year at Sunday's UNFP awards ceremony.

Paris Saint-Germain's excellent season was recognised by their fellow professionals, who voted Mbappé into the history books. The France international was named Young Player of the Year for a record third successive year, and by adding the senior award too, he becomes the first player ever to do so in the awards' history.

It's the ninth time a Paris Saint-Germain player has been named the league's best after David Ginola (1993/94), Vincent Guérin (1994/95), Marco Simone (1997/98), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2012/13, 2013/14 and 2015/16), Edinson Cavani (2016/17) and Neymar Jr (2017/18).

Alongside the World Cup winner, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Angel Di Maria, Marco Verratti and Neymar Jr make up a strong Rouge et Bleu contingent in the Team of the Year. The capital club's Marie-Antoinette Katoto also set a new standard by being named the Women's D1's Young Player of the Year for a second consecutive season.
