Stats & Facts: The win over Rennes

Match in numbers

Following Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 victory over Rennes on Friday 11 February at the Parc des Princes, check out the key figures and the events that marked Matchday 24 of Ligue 1.

PARIS in the running until the final second

In picking up another victory in injury time against Les Rennais, Paris Saint-Germain have now picked up 8 points thanks to goals scored after the 90th minute in Ligue 1 this season, that’s more than any other team in the top-flight. Against Les Bretons, Les Rouge et Bleu secured a fifth consecutive home clean sheet in Ligue 1 for the first time under the same coach since Unai Emery between September and November 2016 (6 home matches in a row). The club from the capital are without a loss in their last 15 Ligue 1 matches (10 wins, 5 draws), the longest current run in the top 5 European leagues in the same season since November 2019-February 2020 (15).

MESSI, MR CAVIAR

With the assist for the only goal of the evening against SRFC, Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has been involved in 10 goals in his last 10 matches for the club from the capital (3 goals, 7 assists). La Pulga has been involved in 9 goals in 14 Ligue 1 matches this season (2 goals, 7 assists), only Kylian Mbappé boasts a better record in Paris (21). Les Rouge et Bleu’s number 30 has picked up an assist in his last three appearances in the top-flight.

MBAPPÉ on a roll

With the winning goal on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé scored his sixth goal in injury time of the second half in Ligue 1, his first which has secured the victory. His goals have secured 19 points for the club from the capital in the league this season, a better total than any other Ligue 1 player. When he scores at the Parc des Princes in the league, Paris win! Les Rouge et Bleu’s record when the World Champion scores is incredible: 41 matches, with the same number of victories. The Paris number 7 has now been involved in 300 goals in 315 matches for his club and country (204 goals, 96 assists). What’s more, with 119 goals, he has become the top scorer in the top five European league in the 21st century under 24 years old, on a par with… his teammate Lionel Messi!

A FIRST FOR SIMONS

In the starting eleven for Les Rouge et Bleu for the first time in his career in Ligue 1, against Rennes, Xavi Simons became the first player to be born in 2003 or after to start for Paris in Ligue 1. The number 34 also became the 10th player born in 2003 or after to appear in the starting eleven in a top-flight match, after Matthis Abline, Wesley Ugochukwu (Rennes), Martin Adeline (Reims), Rayan Cherki, Malo Gusto (Lyon), Elye Wahi (Montpellier), Lucas Gourna (Saint-Étienne), William Mikelbrencis (Metz) and Mohamed-Ali Cho (Angers).

DIALLO AND GUEYE HONOURED

Crowned Africa Cup of Nations Champions last week, Paris Saint-Germain’s two Senegalese players Abdou Diallo and Idrissa Gueye were honoured before the match against Les Bretons. The defender and the midfielder received a trophy as a souvenir for their victory from the Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, before receiving a standing ovation as they headed out onto the pitch of the Parc des Princes. It’s worth noting that the club from the capital is the only club to boast current African, European (Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marco Verratti), South American (Leandro Paredes, Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi), and World (Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappé) Champions!
