Stats & Facts: A look back at the win over Nantes

Match in numbers

What a night! Check out the stats and key numbers from Les Parisiens’ 4-2 win over Nantes at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.

Mbappé THE OUTRIGHT LEADER

It's all that the Parc des Princes wanted – last night was fated for us to see Kylian Mbappé etch his name on the very highest rung of Paris's top scorers list. After a number of glorious passes to his teammates and multiple attempts of his own, it was in the dying seconds of the game that the no. 7 earned his 201st goal for the club to bring the Parc des Princes immediately to its feet. It was a goal that gave Les Rouge et Bleu a unique moment to share between the man of the hour, his teammates and the fans in what was a big-game atmosphere.

With broken records come overviews, as Mbappé has updated several precedents that had stood since last century.

Against Nantes, the Bondy native became the first player to score 201 competitive goals for the same French club since a certain Delio Onnis for AS Monaco in 1980 (223 goals).

A natural-born goalscorer, the 2018 World Cup winner has scored an average of 0.71 goals per game in his professional career so far (264 goals in 373 games in total), which is the highest ratio among French players having scored at least 200 goals since the late Just Fontaine's record of 0.94 goals per game. No big deal.

 THE IMPERIAL Messi

Having been involved in nine goals in 11 games in 2023, Lionel Messi has been unstoppable since his World Cup win. The Rouge et Bleu striker has found the net in each of his last five Ligue 1 games for the first time in his career, and thanks to his opener on Saturday, Messi became the first player this season to be involved in 50 goals for club and country, scoring 30 and assisting in 20. It's fair to say that Paris's attack is in good form!

PARIS tighten their grip on top spot

With this win, Paris Saint-Germain reaffirm their fine form and strengthen their position at the top of the Ligue 1 table, with an 11-point lead over second-placed Marseille.

The capital club have now earned 20 league wins this season, a total that only three clubs have reached after 26 games of a season: Sochaux in 1934/35 (20 wins), Saint-Étienne in 1968/69 (20 wins) and... Paris on five occasions (22 wins at the same stage in 2015/16 and 2017/18, 23 wins in 2018/19, 21 wins in 2019/20 and 20 wins this season).

Intensity, professionalism and efficiency – with a few days to go until they head out to Germany, Les Parisiens had all the ingredients needed for success and to prepare for battle in Munich in the best way possible.
