Check out the key stats and facts from Les Parisiens’ 2-1 win over AJ Auxerre on Matchday 36 of Ligue 1 at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps last night.
PARIS STAY STRONG ON THE ROAD
By notching up another win on the road, Les Parisiens have emerged victorious from 14 of their 18 away games in Ligue 1 so far this season, thereby equalling their second-highest tally of away wins in a single top-flight campaign, which they first reached in the 2016–2017 season. Incidentally, Les Rouge et Bleu have only done better than this on one occasion: the 2015–2016 season, when they recorded a total of 15 away wins.
What's more, the capital club have scored 43 goals in 18 away league games this season, which is at least six more than any other team in Europe's top five leagues over the course of the current campaign and is already the highest-ever total for away goals scored by a team in a single Ligue 1 campaign since Olympique Lyonnais's 49 goals during the 2017–2018 season.
KYLIAN MBAPPé BECOMES PARIS'S YOUNGEST-EVER BRACE SCORER
Paris striker Kylian Mbappé bagged a brace after just eight minutes against Auxerre on Sunday evening – the quickest brace in a Ligue 1 game since Yoan Gouffran scored in both the first and the fifth minute for Les Girondins de Bordeaux on 7th May 2012, in a game away to... Auxerre. Above all, Mbappé becomes the youngest-ever player to score a brace for Paris Saint-Germain in the top flight.
In addition, he scored his two goals inside two minutes and 14 seconds, making it the quickest brace of his career with the capital club, and since the France international likes breaking records, he has also become the scorer of the fastest brace in Paris's top-flight history since Zlatan Ibrahimović netted twice inside one minute and 53 seconds against Marseille on 7th October 2012.
Finally, Mbappé made the most of his first game at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps to add AJA's stadium to the list of Ligue 1 grounds where he has found the back of the net. Before Sunday, Paris's no. 7 had never had the chance to score away to the Burgundy-based outfit, but thanks to his brace, he can now tick them off.
THE ENGINE ROOM HARD AT WORK
Against Auxerre, Paris bossed the midfield, as demonstrated by Fabián Ruiz, who was involved in a goal for the third straight Ligue 1 game (two scored and one assisted) – the longest streak of the Spain international's career in this respect.
Alongside him, Marco Verratti enjoyed 155 touches during yesterday's game – the highest total for a player in a Ligue 1 game this season as well as his own highest total since his 162 touches in a game against Angers on 2nd October 2020.
LEO MESSI STILL ON TOP
Lionel Messi is the only player in Europe's top five leagues to have scored at least 20 goals and provided at least 20 assists in all competitions this season (incidentally, Messi has exactly 20 goals and 20 assists to his name this season). By assisting his strike partner Kylian Mbappé for Paris's second goal on Sunday, the Argentine racked up the 300th assist of his club career.
