In the wake of the 1-1 draw between Paris Saint-Germain and Toulouse FC on Saturday August 19 at the Stadium, here are the key stats and events from the game on Matchday 2 of Ligue 1.
DOMINATION NOT ENOUGH
Despite dominating the game, Paris Saint-Germain were unable to claim their first win of the season on Saturday. Luis Enrique's men were caught out at the very end of the match, and were unable to hold on to their lead despite having the lion's share of possession against the Toulousans: 76.4%!
Since Opta began analysing Ligue 1 (2006-2007), this is the second time a team has had more than 75% possession of the ball in 2 consecutive matches (78% against Lorient on Matchday 1). The first time was also for the capital club against Caen (76.6%) and Bastia (75.9%) in December 2015-January 2016.
SUPERSUB MBAPPÉ
After winning and converting a penalty just minutes after coming on as a substitute, Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé came close to clinching victory for his side by scoring the capital club's 1st goal in an official match this season. He is the scorer of Paris' 1st goal of the season in all competitions for the second time in his career, after 2019-2020 (against Rennes in the Trophée des Champions), with 3 different players following him since (Julian Draxler, Achraf Hakimi and Lionel Messi from 2020-2021 to 2022-2023).
It's also the first time the French international has scored the 1st Paris goal of a Ligue 1 campaign. The red-and-blue No.7 has scored 15 goals coming off the bench for Paris in all competitions, with no player doing better (15 also for Edinson Cavani). 10 of these were scored in Ligue 1, making the 2018 world champion the club's top-scoring substitute in the top flight (9 for Amara Simba).
SUPERSONIC DEMBÉLE
Entering the game at the start of the 2nd half at the same time as Les Bleus' captain, Paris Saint-Germain's new forward Ousmane Dembélé made his first appearance in an official match for the Rouge et Bleu.
The player who became the 499th to wear the club's shirt in all competitions managed at least 3 times more dribbles than any other player on the pitch (6), despite only coming on in the 51st minute! A promising start...
