Sergio Rico signs for Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the season-long loan, with option to buy, of Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

Sergio Rico, who celebrates his 26th birthday on Sunday 1 September, is the ninth Spaniard to play for Paris Saint-Germain, and the first as a goalkeeper.  

In the 2018-19 season, Rico was loaned to FC Fulham in England where he played 32 matches, including 29 in the Premier League.  

Sergio began his football career in the youth academy at hometown club Sevilla FC, before joining partner club Sevilla Atlético.  

He returned to Sevilla FC with whom he made his Liga debut on 9 September 2014, against Getafe. It was the first of 170 matches with the Andalusia club that included two UEFA Europa League triumphs in 2015 and 2016. The next two seasons saw Rico make 16 starts in the Champions League. He now boasts a rich European experience of 37 continental matches in all competitions.  

Paris’ new ‘keeper was a regular in the Spain national team squad between 2015 and 2017, and has one cap for La Roja, versus Korea Republic (6-1, 1 June 2016). After that debut friendly appearance, Sergio Rico was named in the 23-man squad to take part in Euro 2016, in France.
