Rouge et Bleu fans pick their season highlights

North American Paris Saint-Germain fans got together to discuss their highlights of the season. Here’s how they saw the 2018/2019 campaign.

PSG Talk, a fansite run by die-hard North American Rouge et Bleu fans celebrated the club’s championship campaign with a Twitter poll and season review to highlight the stand out moments from the last nine months.

Asked for their favourite new signing of the season, fans voted Juan Bernat as their stand out candidate.

“His versatility to both contribute to the attack while also tending to his defensive duties made him an important cog in Thomas Tuchel’s system and contributed three huge goals in the UEFA Champions League.”

Fans were also asked for their ‘Homegrown Player of the Year’, which the contributors on @psgtalk awarded to Moussa Diaby.

Matt Gooding (@PSGTourist) summed up the 19 year old’s fantastic contribution, saying “…he is one of the most promising talents in the Paris Saint-Germain squad. Diaby’s star shone particularly bright in the first half of the season. Integrated into the first team squad in the early days of Tuchel’s regime, his pacy, direct running caught the eye, and he immediately looked at home alongside many well established names in the squad.”

On the subject of the fans’ favorite celebration of the season, they chose one that didn’t actually occur on the pitch! The guys decided that Neymar’s passionate celebrations whilst watching his teammates defeat Manchester United in the UCL during his recuperation from injury was their highlight of the season.

Fans also voted as their 'Match of the season' the Rouge et Bleu’s incredible UEFA Champions League victory over Liverpool at the Parc des Princes.

The 2-1 win all but confirmed passage to the knock-out stages and saw Thomas Tuchel lead his side to victory over the eventual finalists and one of the most deadly teams in Europe.

It was also in European competition that PSG’s North American fans’ favorite goal was scored;

Angel Di Maria’s late strike against Napoli won the vote with honorable mentions going to Kylian Mbappé for his strike against Manchester United as well as Dani Alves’ two incredible goals against Nantes and Stade Rennais.

Finally the supporters voted for their Player of the Year, handing the trophy to Ligue 1’s Golden Boot winner, Kylian Mbappé.

PSG Talk’s founder Ed agreed with his fellow supporters, saying, “Mbappé scored 33 goals in Ligue 1, 11 more than the second-place finisher, and led PSG in several high-profile Champions League matches, including the away match at Manchester United where he scored a brilliant goal to put us up 2-0. Mbappé is a once-in-a-generation type player and at 20-years-old, it’s almost scary to think how much better he will become as he gains more experience at the club”
