The context
After Anfield and the San Paolo, Paris Saint-Germain headed to the Marakana where Crvena zvezda had lost just one of their last 15 European games. But unbeaten in their last four UEFA Champions League matches, Paris Saint-Germain were on a mission: clinch a place in the top two in Group C in the stadium where both Napoli and Liverpool had failed to win.

The key moments
The formula wasn't complicated, but getting the three points to ensure Paris Saint-Germain would continue their European adventure was. But having won the first game between the pair 6-1, the French champions had confidence on their side. They also had Kylian Mbappé in it, and the FIFA World Cup-winning prodigy dashed down the right before crossing for Edinson Cavani to open the scoring (0-1, 9'). Camped in their opponents' final third, Paris pressed: Neymar forced Borjan into a stop before Angel Di Maria flashed a shot just wide (31'). It would not take long for the hosts to fold, and it was Neymar who forced them to, latching onto Mbappé's ball before driving forward and clipping in a brilliant second (0-2, 40'). Mbappé nearly added a third before the break (42') as the visitors went in at half-time in the ascendancy.

The dream turned a little scarier when Marko Gobeljic pulled one back (1-2, 56'), but chances for Thilo Kehrer (61') and Cavani (68') reasserted Paris' dominance that was cemented by Marquinhos (1-3, 74')! Mbappé's late fourth (1-4, 90+2') put a glossy sheen on a scoreline that takes Thomas Tuchel and his men into the knockout stages as group winners.

A Parisian in the match : Edison Cavani
In just nine minutes, Paris Saint-Germain's all-time leading scorer in European competition (29 goals) ended the hosts' 374-minute long streak without conceding a goal at home. El Matador also brought up the half-century for appearances in the Rouge-et-Bleu in European club football's premier competition.

The word: first
It has been quite a contest since September, but Paris Saint-Germain have come out smiling. After six games, three wins, two draws and just one loss, the Parisians have finished on top of their section, two points ahead of Liverpool, to secure a seventh successive participation in the knockout stages.
