Danilo Pereira, Vitinha and Nuno Mendes' Portugal fell to defeat against South Korea on Matchday 3 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 group stage (2-1).
After two wins in as many matches for Portugal over Ghana (3-2) and Uruguay (2-0), Nuno Mendes, Danilo Pereira and Vitinha and their teammates had already qualified for the Round of 16 for the World Cup. They approached this 3rd encounter with one final objective: consolidating first place in Group H. Mission accomplished for the Portuguese, despite losing at the hands of a determined South Korea side, who gave their all to secure their own qualification (2-1).
They did so at the expense of Uruguay, who were eliminated despite their own win over Ghana in the other match in the group (2-0).
Paris Saint-Germain's Vitinha started the match in midfield. Danilo Pereira stayed on the bench, while Nuno Mendes remains unavailable after his injury in the previous match.
Fernando Santos' side now know their next opponents: they will face Switzerland on Tuesday 6 December at 20:00 French time.ย ย
