Paris followed up reaching the Coupe de la Ligue final at Reims on Wednesday (0-3) by picking up three points at Lille just three days later (0-2).
Thomas Tuchel's men came up against a side that was determined to cause the visitors problems, and made a high-tempo, intense start. Luiz Araujo's powerful shot tested Keylor Navas (8') early on as proof of the hosts' intentions.
The visitors hit back through Kylian Mbappé (13', 17') and Angel Di Maria (21'), but it was via Neymar Jr that they finally broke through. Played in by Marco Verratti, the Parisian number 10 bent home a superb curling shot from the edge of the penalty area to give his side the lead (0-1, 28').
The Neymar Jr-Mbappé duo got to work and the France international had a shot blocked by Gabriel (31') after a smart one-two with his Brazilian teammate. Lille then bounced back, but Victor Osimhen could not find the target with a powerful effort (37').
Lille pushed after the restart, but that gave the Parisians space in which to counter-attack. In a move involving Mauro Icardi and Kylian Mbappé, Reinildo handled the ball, and Neymar Jr swept home the penalty emphatically (0-2, 52'). He took the opportunity to pay tribute to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who died tragically on Sunday.
That certainly dampened the hosts' enthusiasm and while Christophe Galtier's side tried to regroup, the Parisians sought to deliver the knockout blow. A powerful Icardi header (65') and a fierce shot from Mbappé (68') threatened to provide it while the visitors' defence dealt with the menace of Osimhen.
Only a Mike Maignan save denied Mbappé after a lightning counter-attack led by Neymar Jr. (72'), and the former Paris Saint-Germain youth academy goalkeeper did the same shortly afterwards to frustrate Mbappé once more (88'). Renato Sanches looked to have at least given Lille the last laugh, but the offside flag ruled out his effort (90+2').
The Parisians became the first side to beat Lille at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in league competition this season, and now Thomas Tuchel's men take their 17-game unbeaten run in all competitions to Pau for Wednesday's Coupe de France Last 16 tie.
