Paris maintain the pace

The context
Paris arrived in Rennes with a significant psychological advantage: the French champions were aiming for their seventh successive win there, the same place Neymar Jr and Co. had swept their opponents aside last season...And after Liverpool, the trip presented a chance to boost morale with a sixth successive league win.

The key moments
Spurred on by the scale of the challenge, the hosts started like a train. Mbaye Niang's shot was boxed out by Gianluigi Buffon (4') before Marquinhos - captain for the day - thwarted James Léa-Siliki (10'). Rennes' waves of pressure paid off when Adrien Rabiot unwittingly directed a corner into his own goal (1-1, 11'). PSG responded with Edinson Cavani's strike that was ruled out (26') before El Matador's diving header (42') and Neymar Jr (44') both tested Tomas Koubek in the home goal. The Czech goalkeeper was helpless though when Angel Di Maria drilled a sublime low shot beyond him (1-1, 45').

Cavani quickly set the tone for the second half: sent clear by Ney, the Uruguay international hit a post just 41 seconds after the restart (46'). The message was clear, and the visitors might have made the break but for Koubek shortly afterwards (52'). Buffon too was busy (54', 56') before Meunier - like at Anfield - got forward, and where Cavani had found the woodwork, he found the net with a low shot into the far corner after another superb through ball from Neymar Jr (1-2, 61'). Buffon frustrated Ramy Bensebaini (73') before Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting came off the bench to add number three (1-3, 83') and ensure the Parisians enjoyed the joy of six in Brittany.

A Parisian in the match: Angel Di Maria
In PSG's last three L1 games, the Argentina international has scored three sublime goals. At Nîmes, it was direct from a corner, and his goal - his 11th league strike from outside the box - at Roazhon Park was just as breathtaking. That is more than any other player in L1 since he arrived in France.

The word: Quick
Six minutes in L1, one shot on target, one goal. After replacing Marco Verratti on 77 minutes, Choupo-Moting enjoyed a dream debut, which will remain long in the memory of the Cameroon international.

Up next
After starting their autumn marathon of five games in two weeks, PSG have 72 hours off before getting back into L1 action when they round off Week 7 against Reims (kick-off 21:00CEST). Paris will start favourites against the newly promoted team (10th), who have failed to score in three league games and who haven't won in the capital for 43 years.
