Paris fall against Lille

News

Paris Saint-Germain were beaten by the LOSC this Saturday afternoon at the Parc des Princes, in matchday 31 of Ligue 1 (0-1). Here's how it happened.

After a massive result against Olympique Lyonnais just before the international break, the Parisians were back in Ligue 1 with another top of the table clash against the LOSC. For this encounter Mauricio Pochettino was without numerous players.

The game started off all guns blazing between the two best performing sides in Ligue 1. Against a low Lille defensive block waiting to counter attack the Parisians started to settle into the ex-Paris Saint-Germain player Mike Maignan's penalty area. Neymar Jr had the first big chance of the game with a nice acrobatic effort after some great work from  Angel Di Maria (6'), and then set up his partner in crime Kylian Mbappé, whose powerful strike was saved by Mike Maignan (15').

Despite a good start to the game it was the Lillois who took the lead through Jonathan David, with their only first half attempt (0-1, 20'). An opener then changed the game's dynamic with a clear attack against defence. With their lead, the Dogues knew that they had to deny the Parisians' attacks for over an hour. Higher up the field and looking more dangerous they upped the tempo as shown by Neymar Jr (61', 69').

But against the best defence in the league the Rouge et Bleu weren't able to break them down and level the game up. Paris were defeated in a real battle that ended in Neymar Jr being sent off at the end of the game. Forgetting this loss and moving forward is now key as the club from the capital travel to Bavaria this Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League quarter final against Bayern Munich.
