Paris end the week in style

The context
No team has taken more points at Saint-Etienne than Paris Saint-Germain. At home in 'the Cauldron' (just one loss and nine wins in 12 games), the hosts (5th at kick-off) had failed to beat Paris in nine attempts on their own turf.

The key moments
The spark for the win finally came from a forward on fire: Kylian Mbappé. The Paris number 7 dampened the fires of the Cauldron 17 minutes from time (0-1, 73') to claim all three points for the visitors.

Before that, it had been a tactical battle. Other than two attempts from Kevin Monnet-Paquet (11, 35'), Alphonse Areola enjoyed a quiet evening. At the opposite end, Stéphane Ruffier saw powerful efforts from Julian Draxler (19') and Dani Alves miss the target (30'), though did get his hands dirty in denying Mbappé (20') as the duo were deadlocked at the break.

Ten minutes after the break, Draxler was thwarted only by a brilliant reflex stop from Ruffier (55') before Colin Dagba, who had just come off the bench, made a timely intervention to halt Gabriel Silva (62'). It was only brief respite for the hosts, who then watched Mbappé (64') and Angel Di Maria (67') threaten. Dani Alves then teed up Mbappé, and his shot into the far top corner did the rest. Five days after the win in Manchester, the Rouge-et-Bleu had their 20th win in 23 league games.

A Parisian in the match: Kylian Mbappé
Outstanding at Old Trafford, acrobatic at Geoffroy-Guichard! The world champion added a real gem to his collection in sweeping the ball past Ruffier. It gave him a more comfortable cushion at the head of the leading scorers' chart, and it makes him the first Frenchman to have 19 goals in 18 matches in a L1 season in the last 45 years.

The word: Finishing
In each game this season, we've seen his celebration. Just after 22:30 local time, Mbappé celebrated again. Paris Saint-Germain have now scored in their last 23 league matches, a club record.

What's next
Same time, same battle. On Wednesday, sixth-placed Montpellier will be Paris' guests in their rescheduled Week 17 game. It'll be an opportunity for the French champions to extend their lead over second-placed Lille if they can pick up a 13th successive home win in L1.
