Paredes, the elegant warrior

News

Join us to take a look at new Paris Saint-Germain signing Leandro Paredes – the versatile Argentinian midfielder brings a blend of power and elegance to Les Rouge et Bleu.

After emerging from the Boca Juniors youth academy, Leandro played 29 times (scoring five goals) in four seasons with the first team, before joining AS Roma, where he played 54 matches, in all competitions, and scoring four goals between 2014 and 2017, either side of a successful season-long loan at Empoli.

An eye for goal

Joining Zenit in 2017-18, the Argentinian shined with the St Petersburg club in the Russian Premier League. With ten goals and 15 assists, in all competitions, Paredes is a midfielder capable of winning possession and immediately breaking forward, always looking to break the lines and play positive football. Technically accomplished, he works tirelessly for the team, as his stats profess: since signing in Russia, he leads the league for the most passes leading to a shot on goal (98) and the most successful crosses (83).

Paredes also knows how to make the difference with the ball at his feet in a side that dominates possession, qualities close to the heart of coach Thomas Tuchel. This season, with Zenit, Leandro has recorded 81.8% successful dribbles - a statistic that will delight Paris Saint-Germain’s German coach who loves this style of player; both elegant and decisive.

An Argentina international since 2017, Leandro just missed out on Jorge Sampaoli’s squad for the 2018 World Cup, but the man from San Justo now boasts nine caps and one goal for his country and is promised a big future in Albiceleste. As well as big future in Rouge et Bleu.
