Paris to meet Lyon in semis

News

Paris Saint-Germain will face fellow Ligue 1 heavyweights Olympique Lyonnais in the Coupe de France semi-finals.

The record 12-time winners (1982, 1983, 1993, 1995, 1998, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), who have seen off Linas-Montlhéry (6-0), Lorient (1-0), Pau (2-0) and Dijon (6-1), will host the five-time winners (1964, 1967, 1973, 2008, 2012), who have knocked out Bourg-en-Bresse (7-0), Nantes (4-3), Nice (2-1) and Marseille (1-0) en route to the last four.

The pair have already met this season with the Week 6 league encounter at the Groupama Stadium going Paris' way thanks to Neymar Jr (88') and his late matchwinner. The return league fixture in early February ended with a 4-2 capital club win through goals from Angel Di Maria (22'), Kylian Mbappé (38'), a Marçal own-goal (47') and Edinson Cavani (79') that more than cancelled out strikes from Martin Terrier (52') and Moussa Dembélé (59'). The pair will also face off a fourth time in the 2019-20 campaign in the Coupe de la Ligue final on 4 April.

The two teams also have a common Coupe de France history: two quarter-final meetings, one in 1975-1976 (1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes, 2-0 Lyon win at Stade de Gerland) and in 2011-2012 (a 3-1 Lyon win in Paris), in the 2015-2016 Last 16 (a 3-0 Paris home win), and once in the final in 2007-2008, when Lyon won 1-0 a.e.t. at the Stade de France).
