New season, how it works

News

After a busy summer, the Parisians are looking forward to the new season. A 2020-2021 campaign of course shaken up by the health crisis. PSG.FR offers you a look at the horizon and what awaits the Rouge et Bleu in the months to come.

Ligue 1: It's already started

Two league games have been played since the restart. The Parisians have seen their first two matches postponed, against Metz first of all, because the capital club took part in the Champions League final on August 23, when they were scheduled to be hosting the Lorraine club the same day at the Parc des Princes. Then the trip to Lens, initially scheduled for Saturday August 29, was postponed to Thursday September 10 by the LFP.

0 points after two matchdays, and 14th place in the table, an anomaly and of course completely anecdotic. But September will be a busy month, with the postponed games to be made up. Paris will go to Lens on the 10, before hosting OM 4 days later, the Classique already, in Round 3. Three days later Paris will host Metz before going to Nice on the 20th and Reims on the 27th. Five matches in 17 days, and getting right into the heart of the season!

The fixture list means the first half of the season will only finish in 2021, with the home game against Brest on January 10, before a 10-day break, and a trip to Angers for the start of the second half of the league season. All the ticketing information can be found here >>>

Champions League: A shaken-up fixture list

Naturally enough, the next campaign of UEFA's star competition has had its fixture list shaken up. The preliminary rounds are ongoing and the draw for the group stage for which Paris Saint-Germain have qualified directly will take place on October 1 in Athens.

Unlike in previous season and going against habits, the group stage will start on October 20. Three matches will take place in three weeks then there will be a three-week break before the return matches, that will also take place over three weeks (24/25 November, 1/2 December and 8/9 December)

The draw for the Round of 16 will take place on December 14.

National Cups: Exit the Coupe de la Ligue, what of the TDC ?

Paris won the last Coupe de la Ligue in history, against Lyon on July 31. The competition has come to an end unlike - of course - the Coupe de France and the Ligue 1 clubs will enter the competition next January.

Winners of last season's Coupe de France, Paris Saint-Germain should take on the second-placed club in the league in the Trophée des Champions, that is to say Olympique de Marseille. If the LFP haven't set a date or confirmed that the TDC will take place, several media outlets have relayed the possibility of the game taking place in January 2021, information to be taken lightly, while waiting for official communication from the body in charge of professional football in France.
