Nasser Al-Khelaïfi: 'A big disappointment'

Reactions

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Thomas Tuchel, Marquinhos and Thiago Silva gave their thoughts on Paris Saint-Germain's 3-1 loss to Manchester United at the Parc des Princes in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi (Paris Saint-Germain Chairman and CEO)
"I'm very disappointed by this match and this result. I don't know how we managed to lose this match. We played very well in Manchester and won 2-0, but now we lose 3-1 at home. It's really tough. We gifted them this result. I don't understand it. The players, the supporters… everyone is in shock. It's a big disappointment. We controlled the match, with 72% possession, and then there was this penalty in the 90th minute... I don't understand."

Thomas Tuchel (Paris Saint-Germain coach)
"It's easy to explain: we gifted them two goals in the first half. We completely controlled the match for the first 30 minutes. We played with a lot of quality, with a good mentality and a great reaction after we gifted Manchester the first goal. We had a lot of chances. And then, without any chances to speak of, Manchester scored a second. That turned the match upside down for us. I never got the impression that Manchester United had come here to win. But they did win, and congratulations to them."

Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain defender)
"It was a nightmarish night. We got knocked out once again even though we were holding all the cards. We didn't do what we had to do. The result was perhaps undeserved. Manchester came here to defend and to make the most of our errors, and we made too many of them. There's not much more to say. All the fans are upset, and so are we. We need to take a good, hard look at ourselves and figure out what worked and what didn't so we can come back stronger next year."

Thiago Silva (Paris Saint-Germain defender)
"It's hard to find the words. It's a shame because we played so well in the first leg. We didn't do what we said we wanted to do. It's a shame. Up until now, we've had a very good Champions League campaign and, again, we stop here. I want to apologise to our supporters. We won in Manchester and they won here. That's football. Nothing worked today. I just want to say sorry to the fans. We are all upset. The penalty? It's a shame we didn’t have time to react. When you fall, you have to get back up again."
