Montpellier put the brakes on Paris

News

The key moments
With the pressure off them after clinching an eighth league title, the Parisians were beaten at the Stade de la Mosson after looking like they had done enough to win it.

They got their noses in front just after the hour mark when Angel Di Maria quite brilliantly beat Benjamin Lecomte (1-2, 62'). He was the first player to score at the right end after Ambroise Oyongo (0-1, 13') and Presnel Kimpembe (1-1, 22') both put through their own goals in a scenario not seen in Ligue 1 in the last decade. Two Gianluigi Buffon saves (30', 31') kept Paris in it before the break.

A turning point… and then turned over

Eight minutes after Di Maria's gem, the French champions came so close to making the definitive break, but Pedro Mendes stopped Julian Draxler's effort on his own goalline to keep the hosts' hopes alive (70')...

It didn't take long for Montpellier to capitalise: Andy Delort bringing the home crowd alive by squeezing a shot past Buffon to level (2-2, 80'). Leandro Paredes then made a goalline clearance of his own (85'), but there was no stopping substitute Souleymane Camara, who had come off the bench just three minutes earlier, from netting the winner (3-2, 85').

It was the same scoreline and outcome at Nantes on their last away trip, and after charging forward, Paris are now treading water. Against Nice at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, a very different outcome will be expected.
