Mbappé: "When I score, I want to score a second, a third...I always want more!"

French champion for the third year in a row, Kylian Mbappé looks back at his season in Rouge et Bleu, where he was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year!

Kylian, what does it mean for you, the footballer, to win the league?
"I'm very happy. We worked for hard for this. It is one of the objectives that we set ourselves at the start of the season and we reached it. Three years ago, I won it as an outsider and now as a favourite and it makes me just as happy. At the end of the day, the best team won the league. We worked very hard and we earned our reward, the fruit of our labour. When you're the favourite, and you win, you have a strong feeling, an very nice feeling of having done the business."

Statistically, this has been an incredible Ligue 1 campaign. Is that a good answer to those who say the title has lost some of its lustre?
"The people saying that are probably the ones that didn't win it and don't know what it feels like to win. We have enjoyed one of the best seasons in the history of Ligue 1, even if not everything was perfect. But at the end of the day, we played a great championship. You mustn't confuse which competition is which. When we talk about Ligue 1, the stats show it was an exceptional season."

There were plenty of highlights, including your quadruple against Lyon...
"It was a very difficult game against the second-best team in Ligue 1. We knew it was going to be tough. We were leading early 1-0... and then there were the two red cards that created a bit of tension... but it was a positive tension because both teams responded well. I had some chances, like in every match. I'm lucky to create so many chances. Not every player can create so many chances in a game, so I'm very lucky to have so many, thanks to my teammates. If I have three chances, it means I can create a fourth, and maybe that one will end up in the back of the net. And when I score, I want to score a second, a third, a fourth... I always want more."

In the second half of the season when Neymar and Cavani were injured, you went on a run of scoring in seven consecutive Ligue 1 matches... How did you feel at that time?
"I knew the team needed me. I had to look after myself, be ready and prepared for every game because we coudn't afford another injury. I wanted to play every game, to score and to help the team win every time. I was in form, I felt good and I managed to score a lot, so I was very happy to be able to help the team. That is always the most important thing."
