Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique and captain Marquinhos spoke to PSG TV after the last-minute 2-1 home loss to Atlético de Madrid, at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday in Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League.
Luis Enrique
“It's very difficult to analyse a match like this straight after the final whistle. But it's been the same story for the last few Champions League matches. Luck hasn't been on our side. Today, we're obviously disappointed. Tomorrow, we will look at the game calmly and try to keep improving. We'll pick ourselves up and go again. There are four Champions League matches left. How far can we go in those four games? We will go until the last minute.
“It's a very upsetting feeling, because the fans supported us throughout the match and we pushed until the last second, but it was like the ending from a horror film. It feels very unfair and it is, it's very unfair. I've never had so many unfair results in a row in a competition in my career. We still have four matches to play. Four tough matches against top-class opponents. We knew that the draw was very tough and now we have to prepare ourselves for these next four matches.”
Marquinhos
“I think football can be like this sometimes. You can see it was two different approaches to the game. I think that's what football is all about. I also think that when you really want to win, you do everything you can to win. You have to create more chances, score goals, press your opponents and play in their half of the field. Today, I think we had the chances, we controlled the match, we had more possession, but once again, we weren't able to capitalise on all these opportunities and all the good things we did in the match. You have to take advantage of your dominance and we weren't able to do that. We haven't been able to convert it into goals and results in recent matches. I think we're doing some good things, but this is the toughest competition in the world. You're always playing against top teams who make you pay for the slightest mistakes you make. That's how it was again today.
“I think the fans are our strength. This team is theirs, we work for this jersey, these colours and I think that's very important. We feel their presence more and more each time we're out on the pitch. We want to get the results, make them happy so that they can go home and work the next day feeling great, in a good mood. So in these difficult moments, we just tell them that we're sorry and that we're going to work to improve.”
