News

Check out the CV of Paris Saint-Germain's new defender.

A CAREER AWAR FROM LIGUE 1

Born in France on 14 February 1996, Lucas Hernández soon moved to Spain. He was just 3 years old when his family crossed the Pyrenees and settled in Madrid. Football soon became a passion, an obsession, first with Rayo Majadahonda and then with Atlético de Madrid. He joined the Colchoneros youth academy at the age of 11 and worked his way up through the ranks at the Madrid club before being handed his first team debut by Diego Simeone in the 2014-2015 season. He gradually established himself in the heart of the defence, alternating between left-back and centre-back, until he became a regular in the team that won the UEFA Europa League in 2018.

In the summer of 2019, after 5 seasons in red and white, he moved to Munich to join Bayern. In Bavaria, he began to fill his trophy cabinet at breakneck speed. In his first season in Germany, he even managed a brilliant sextuple (Bundesliga, German Cup, German Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, European Super Cup and the Club World Cup). After 4 seasons on the other side of the Rhine, he has now made the journey to Paris, ready to finally discover Ligue 1.

A CONSTANT FRENCH CONNECTION

Like his younger brother Theo, Lucas Hernández may have built his career far from France, but France has always been close to his heart. In 2012, he received his first call-up to the French national team, selected for the U16s, before going on to enjoy a flawless youth career: U18s, U19s, U20s, U21s, Lucas went through every youth age group and finally discovered the senior side on 23 March 2018 against Colombia. Since then, he has never looked back, culminating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup triumph in Russia alongside Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappé.

DID YOU KNOW??

A connection already exists between Lucas Hernández and Kylian Mbappé... Teammates with the French national team, the two men know each other well. Very well indeed, as they have worn the blue jersey together on 25 occasions. 25 matches with just 1 defeat, 5 draws and 19 wins, including the victory over Croatia in the final of the World Cup in 2018. It was even Lucas who set up Kylian for France's fourth and final goal. It's a move that we're now waiting to see from them red and blue!
