In this month of June 2021, Paris Saint-Germain celebrate ten years since Qatar Sports Investments' arrival at the head of the club. A chance for PSG.FR to look back at the big moments of the past decade. Today, we're looking at the big games that have marked these last ten years.
It's tough to look back a ten emotional year in just a few lines. The Parisians have played 553 competitive games since 2011 and the arrival of de Qatar Sports Investments, a lot of them have left lasting memories for our fans, who have been supporting the rouge et bleu performances.
Recently, the games in Barcelona and in Munich, respectively in the Roud of 16 and quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League, have become magical matches, with 4-1 and 3-2 wins for the Parisians. Each time, Kylian Mbappé has been a star of the games with his talent, a hat-trick at the Camp Nou, and a brace in Germany. Two games played in the middle of a COVID-19 pandemic, a defining moment in our recent history.
Still on the European stage and a year prior, Paris Saint-Germain had other legendary games. Firstly against in a Parc des Princes without their fans, winning 2-0 to overturn the first leg defeat. The images of joy and happiness after the game will remain in our minds forever. You then needed to wait multiple months before the next Parisian game in the competition, in an unusual but riveting format. The Final 8 in Lisbon gave us this game with the craziest end against Atalanta Bergame, with the two goals right at the end of the game, sending them through to the semi finals with Paris chasing the game for practically the entire game.
The 2014-2015 season also gave us some incredible emotions, with the 3-2 victory against Barça in the group stage, thanks to a Verratti goal that create this famous photo showing the joy of the side. A few months later it was in London that the Rouge et Bleu had another emotional rollercoaster in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea, in unfortunate circumstances, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's early sending off. Thiago Silva scored the equaliser in extra time when everything seemed lost.
Paris also had some fantastic moments in the league. How could you forget the manita at the Vélodrome, 5-1, in 2017, in a game they controlled from start to finish, or even the 7-1 win against Monaco, at the Parc des Princes in 2018, that gave the title back to the Parisians, who'd lost the title the previous season to the Monégasques.
2015-2016 season, Paris are the earliest champions in history (13 March), thanks to a 9-0 at Troyes! The biggest win in the club's history, in a quadruple winning season, fantastic performance that won't be equalled quickly.
To finish, 25 February 2012, Paris draw 4-4 at Gerland, against Lyon, after a comeback and draw thanks to Guillaume Hoarau in the final moments of added time. Big moments that will stay in our minds forever, and games that we will tell our children and grand-children about!
