Guillaume Hoarau: "Scoring in a Classique filled me with emotion"

Interviews

The ex-Paris Saint-Germain forward (57 goals in 160 competitive appearances between 2008 and 2013), who turned 41 on 5 March, came to the Parc des Princes to speak to PSG TV ahead of this weekend's game against Olympique de Marseille.

Guillaume, Le Classique is coming up. You played in some of them, tell us what you remember most about them?

"The 4-2 win at the Vélodrome is something that's there all the time! For people, my name is associated with scoring that brace. As a player, scoring twice in my first Classique filled me with emotion. It had an enormous impact on the rest of my career. It enabled me to make a name for myself and really establish myself at this club. Scoring twice in Marseille, as a Paris Saint-Germain player....there's nothing better or bigger."

And of course we remember your goal at the Parc two seasons later…

"Nenê's lobbed pass, the ball that drops, and a nice little toe poke! There's no nobility in football, a goal is a goal. At the time, I was playing up front with Mevlüt Erding, and we were starting to take a bit of heat...but we never gave up. We worked and I remember that he scored too during that game. In any case, it did me a lot of good as I needed a goal. I let my instinct take over and that little toe poke did the trick!"
