Unai Emery: 'Mbappé is ready'

Speaking at the Ooredoo Training Centre, Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery spoke about how Kylian Mbappé's arrival has given him greater attacking options and that we might see the prodigy in action against Metz on Friday.

The focus of all attention on Wednesday, Kylian Mbappé was naturally a theme for coach Unai Emery to broach in his press conference. Two days before the trip to Metz, the Parisian coach suggested the new Paris number 29 could feature at the Stade Saint-Symphorien. "Mbappé is ready. He took part in training with the rest of the squad on Monday and Tuesday even if, because he had played for France, it was rather about recovery. On Wednesday and Thursday, he'll take part in the sessions. He's ready to be in the squad at Metz and so he could start playing with us. He really wants to get stuck into this adventure."

Asked about the profile of his new forward, Unai Emery was loquacious: "Kylian is the sort of player every coach would like. Firstly, he can play as an out-an-out striker, but also on the flanks, left and right. Mbappé is going to contribute his individual quality, and he has enormous potential. He can score goals, set them up, keep possession...All of that will give us more options in attack. I have talked about his position with him, I did that just after he arrived. From my first conversation with Kylian, I felt he loves football. He watches a lot of games, and when you talk about tactics with him, he understands it instinctively. He may be 18, but he's already very mature. With that attitude, he's going to fit into the squad and the club very well, and with training sessions, he's going to quickly grasp the ideas behind our play. He sent out a strong signal by choosing to stay in France, and he thinks - as we do - that Paris Saint-Germain is going to grow quite a lot. He wants to write a great story here, alongside us."
