Press review: Glasgow

A few hours ahead of the clash between Celtic and Paris Saint-Germain, on Tuesday, 12 September at 19:45 (20:45 CET) at Celtic Park, the Scottish media gave a lot of coverage to this first big European fixture of the season.

It's matchday in Glasgow, where the local press focused on the UEFA Champions League Matchday 1 clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic FC. « We can do this » was the encouraging headline in the Herald, with the article that followed declaring that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has "confidence in his players to rise to the challenge".

"Without fear," intoned the Celtic boss to motivate his troops. "The formula applied perfectly to this Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain," noted the Scottish daily, adding that Celtic want to add a "big scalp" to their collection after having beaten Barcelona 2-0 at Celtic Park in the group stage last season.

The Herald's sports supplement urged caution and close policing of danger trio Mbappé-Cavani-Neymar as well as Dani Alves, Julian Draxler, Thiago Motta and Thiago Silva, adding that "Rodgers has set his players the challenge of beating the odds by upsetting Paris Saint-Germain, who are contenders to go all the way in the Champions League this season."

The Times concurred, talking about "a victory that people all around the world would be talking about," adding that Celtic will have to "lift their game to a new level." Meanwhile, The Sun's sports supplement was entitled: "The eyes of the world will be on us"…bring it on!
