Saran – PSG Handball: pre-match
After surviving relegation at the end of last season on goal difference alone, Saran are looking to make the most of this second chance in the French top flight! And they started brightly with two narrow wins (30-29 vs Cesson, 34-33 vs Toulouse). Two wins on the board for the Loirétains, but two losses since then against Ivry and Aix. They currently sit in eighth place, four points below the leader and four points above the drop zone.
A prolific attack
One of the positives this season for the SLHB, is their attack. They boast the best attack after four matches this season with 126 goals scored (Paris is second with 124 goals). Amongst the goal scorers is Jean-Jacques Acquevillo. In just his second season in the Lidl StarLigue, the 28-year-old left-back is on the top 3 so far this season with 24 goals. Matthieu Drouhin sits seventh in the scoring charts with 22 and he is the sixth-best goal scorer in the league's history with 1,185 career goals.
However, if Saran aren't near the top of the table it's because of their leaky defence. Indeed, they also have the worst defence in the championship with 131 goals conceded. Apart from the first match when Cesson scored 29 past the goalkeeping duo of Miroslav Kocic and Alexis Poirier, Les Saranais have conceded at least 30 goals per match. Aix even netted 37! Only Nantes vs Cesson, have scored more in a single match, with 38. Paris scored 44 against Saran last season. And yet Kocic sits third in the leagues saves charts with 41 in 4 matches.
4 matches, 4 wins, league leader, second-best attack, second-best defence: Paris Saint-Germain Handball's start to the Lidl StarLigue has been near perfect. Only Montpellier have been able to maintain the capital club's cracking pace. Individually, Mikkel Hansen is the Rouge et Beu's top scorer with 23 goals. Last season Paris recorded two wins over Saran - 32-44 and 30-29.
