Preview: PSG Handball - Dunkerque

After a week-long international break, Paris Saint-Germain Handball return to competition on Thursday, when promising side Dunkerque come calling at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin for their Lidl StarLigue Round 7 clash.

Defence still top-notch
At USDK, no-one ever skimps on their defensive duties. The fourth-best defence in the league in 2016-2017, Patrick Cazal's side are showing no sign of letting up at the back and have so far conceded just 147 goals in six matches to figure in the top three defences in France's top flight (with an average of 24.5 goals per match). Once again, only USAM have managed to put more than 30 past them in a ingle match this season. So, the Parisian front line have been warned: they will need to be clinical in front of the goal tended by Oleg Grams and William Annotel if they are to hope for anything from this match. The good news is that the Rouge et Bleu boast the Lidl StarLigue's most prolific attack in the current campaign (192 goals).

Firepower problems
At the other end of the court, however, it's more complicated for Dunkerque. Just one of their players figures in the division's top ten marksmen: Dylan Garain, who sits in eighth place with 32 goals. USDK's next representative, Baptiste Butto, sits in 15th place with 27 strikes. After six matches, Dunkerque sit tenth on the attacking table with 154 goals scored - a relatively meager tally for a side in the upper reaches of the table. Especially when you note that several sides who will battle against relegation manage to score more than they do. Saran, Toulouse, Aix, Nantes and Tremblay, all fare better in attack but sit lower on the table.

Two former Parisians
This summer, two Paris Saint-Germain Handball academy graduates made the move to the North of France: Dylan Garain and Jeffrey M'Tima. The former will be returning to the capital at the end of the season. The 21-year-old left-back has had an excellent start to the league season and was called up by France boss Didier Dinart to take part in the Golden League with The Experts. Unfortunately a serious knee injury will keep the Guadeloupean prodigy out of action for a long while. Meanwhile Jeffrey, who signed a permanent move to USDK, will be returning to Coubertin - where he won four French league titles with the Rouge et Bleu - for the first time as an adversary.
